The Poncho Perfection Hall of Fieros

One of the big reasons that the Fiero 35th Anniversary Celebration is being held in East Peoria is for the huge indoor space available. The Poncho Perfection Hall of Fieros will be even bigger than it was at the 30th anniversary show.

There are also fewer regulations. You don’t have to worry about how much gas is in the tank nor, will it have to be pushed in. The only exception is for cars running racing gas as their exhaust may set off the fire alarms. All cars will need a plastic sheet to catch any wayward drips and that will be supplied as part of your registration fee. As with all show cars AACA rules mandate a fire extinguisher.

You should get your registration in early as even though we have a lot of space it is filling up fast! Don’t wait! Don’t be disappointed!

When in Peoria do as the Peorians do

Not sure what to do while at the Black Top Racing Presents the Fiero 35th Anniversary Celebration? There are a lot of restaurants in walking distance even a couple you could crawl to!  There is a Bass Pro store within walking distance as well!

Beyond the scheduled events there are many other attractions you might want to make time for as well.

The time of year will be perfect for a stroll through the Luthy Botanical Garden or a visit to the Peoria Zoo. Another destination worth making time for would be the Peoria Riverfront Museum,

Of course while in Peoria don’t forget to make time for the biggest Fiero show of the year!

Don’t Judge Me

JUDGE

Want to cruise on past classification? Is polishing your tires too much of a hassle?  Then the “Non- Judged” class at the Black Top Racing Presents the Fiero 35th Anniversary Celebration may be for you. This class is new this year. Cars in the non- judged class will still be eligible for participant and celebrity choice awards they just won’t be judged or, eligible for judged awards.

If you choose to be in this class when you get to the host hotel don’t worry about getting your car classified. Just go straight to registration and let them know you want to be in the non-judged class.  Cars in the non-judged class will still need to display a fire extinguisher as all cars on the show field are required to do.

Tom’s Corner – The Crew Chief

tomscorner
After all the years and all the awards, (over 105) it’s time to give credit where credit is due! In the process of getting all the details in preparation of The Rattler, which includes a check list of all the necessary supplies and detailing before and at the show, the ‘crew chief’ will go over everything on the car: the engine compartment, the front compartment, wheels, tubs, interior and exterior that need attention. I will take care of the roll bar, fire bottle, under carriage, hotel reservations, food, fuel, show registration and any other necessary items for the trip.

This is a team effort, since we do the Midwest Fiero Clubs shows with our Fiero and can actually get all our bags packed in for up to a five-day trip! We have done this with our Fiero for 21 years and thoroughly enjoy meeting old and new friends in each state we travel to. I call her ‘the crew chief’ because of all the effort she has put into making each show a very pleasant experience. She is an expert detailer and could be actually be a judge if asked to do that. So… I pay tribute to my ‘crew chief’, wife and best friend of 60 years…Ann Schmidt, for being so helpful in making ‘The Rattler” the car that it is. We look forward to many more years in pursuing a passion that actually started in 1962 with our Jaguars, and hopefully we will continue to make more friends and be successful in other states as well!
